Listed Buildings Love Quickslide
Info
When Andrew and Emma bought their large Grade II-listed Georgian property two years ago it was in a dire state. The windows in particular, which had been unsympathetically replaced in the 1980s with ill-fitting, unsafe alternatives that disregarded the building’s heritage.

Description
“Some were held together by duct tape,” recalls Andrew. “So new windows were a priority, to bring the house back to life and make it secure and energy efficient. But given the extensive renovations required throughout the whole house, we also needed to make sure the windows were affordable.”
As luck would have it, Andrew and Emma noticed a neighbouring house being renovated with new windows they liked and spoke to the owner who told them about Quickslide.
“I’d never actually seen a Quickslide window before – or at least that’s what I thought. As it turns out, I just hadn’t realised I had. Quickslide windows really are the most realistic period style windows for these Georgian houses.”
Andrew and Emma submitted a Listed Building Consent (LBC) application for their new windows, which required further information to satisfy inspectors before consent was finally granted.
“The only way we could get approval really was to go through Quickslide, due to their attention to detail on the historic features like mechanical joints, astragal bars, deep bottom rail, the wood effect finish and the hardware available. Even the white ‘fillers’ between the glass create the illusion of individual panes within wooden frames.
“Quickslide was fantastic, and the team has been so helpful, even when we altered our plans about six times! Everything was delivered promptly and efficiently, within the agreed timescales.”
In total, twenty-seven windows were installed, including 24 Legacy uPVC sliding sash windows, one arched sash window and two casement windows.
“Replacing the windows has breathed new life into the house. We love the sliding sash, the astragal bars and especially the sunburst effect in the large arched window. The tilt mechanism is a bonus, allowing us to clean the windows from inside – important in our three-storey house!
Andrew firmly believes that without Quickslide’s commitment to heritage details, their LBC application wouldn’t have been granted. “Whether you’re in a listed building or not, if you have an older house and want to retain its authenticity, these are the windows to go for.”
