Restoring period properties to turn them into homes we want to live in means adhering tightly to the authenticity of the past while being sure to incorporate the latest advances in performance, efficiency, and comfort. This was Fran and Matt’s priority when it came to choosing windows for their Georgian house restoration. The couple had found some old photos that showed the house’s original margin pane sash windows and they wanted to replicate these, along with a bespoke shop front style window at the front.

“We wanted to keep everything as historically accurate as possible, but without the expense and upkeep of wood.” A Google search directed them to Quickslide’s Legacy sash windows, which could give them the period details they needed along with the perfect colour options to suit.

“Legacy’s mechanical joints gave us exactly the authentic look we were after. We wanted to make sure they looked as close to original sash windows as possible. But we also liked the different hardware options – we chose black and gold, which both work well in different parts of our house. We also like how the sash windows open internally for easy cleaning, so we know it will be a quick and simple job to keep them looking their best.”

Matt measured up for the windows, requested a quote via email and Quickslide’s customer service team assisted the couple in choosing the best design options for the margin panes at the front and the sash window style for the back of the house.

“Once ordered, the windows arrived quickly, and we installed them all ourselves. For the back of the house, we went with three Legacy sliding sash windows in agate grey. These windows complement the yellow stone walls and beige lime pointing beautifully.

“For the five front windows we opted for cream after receiving some colour samples, as this went well with the bath stone surrounds, we were repairing and fitted well with the village we live in.

“We installed all the windows ourselves and have had so many compliments on them.
