Approved Document K (K2 Protection from Falling) - Any window on an upper floor where the bottom of the window is below 1100mm from the internal floor level may need to have guarding that can resist, as a minimum, the loads given in BS EN 1991-1-1 with its UK National Annex and PD 6688-1-1.  Your local building control will be able to advise if this is required or not. If the glass is being used as the guarding, then we recommend that 6.8mm Laminated glass is used for one pane as a minimum and toughened for the other pane(s) as this will pass the load requirements in most cases. If a load calculation is required for building control this can be done via Quickslide by our glass supplier but must be requested at quote stage. If requested after order acknowledgement and the glass requested isn’t sufficient for the required loads an additional cost will be incurred for the change of glass.
